Welcome to the Van Gogh Museum
The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is dedicated to the works of Vincent van Gogh and his contemporaries. Housed in two buildings on Museumplein, the museum is one of the most popular museums in the Netherlands. Collection Highlights
The Van Gogh Museum houses the largest collection of artworks by Vincent van Gogh in the world. The collection includes over 200 paintings, 500 drawings, and 750 letters by Van Gogh, as well as works by his contemporaries. Here are a few highlights from our collection:
Sunflowers
One of Van Gogh's most iconic series, Sunflowers, represents gratitude and friendship. This painting showcases his vibrant use of color and expressive brushstrokes.
The Starry Night
While not painted in Amsterdam (it’s at MoMA in New York!), we explore the impact and legacy of 'The Starry Night' within Van Gogh's broader oeuvre. It represents his unique perspective and artistic genius. A digital copy and exploration is available to view at the museum.
Wheatfield under Thunderclouds
Painted in the last months of Van Gogh's life, Wheatfield under Thunderclouds is a powerful expression of his inner turmoil and connection to nature.
